Quantitative environmental science: Shaping a new educational research discipline

Attraction to environmental science hinges mostly upon students’ love for the environment.  Yet, quantitative reasoning is an essential aspect of understanding and addressing critical frontiers in this field.  This project advances quantitative environmental science instruction leveraging two established STEM education frameworks: Discipline-Based Educational Research and Physics Education Research.  Over three years, the project will develop and pilot tutorials, demonstrations and instruments to enhance and assess undergraduates’ quantitative reasoning in an environmental science course dealing with energy.  Materials will be piloted and assessed at the UArizona campus and beyond.
