Integrating Nature-Based Solutions into Public Health Education through Game-Based Learning
As the health sector increasingly engages with nature-based solutions (NbS)—strategies that use natural systems to address societal challenges—there is a growing need to prepare students to apply these approaches in practice. This project explores game-based learning (GBL) as a dynamic and underused teaching method in public health education. GBL has the potential to make complex or unfamiliar concepts more accessible, helping students build confidence and motivation to apply their knowledge. Faculty will examine how interactive game-based activities can enhance students’ ability to understand and integrate NbS into real-world health contexts. The project supports the CUES mission by expanding instructional approaches and offering faculty new tools to engage students in active, applied learning. In doing so, it aims to strengthen students’ reasoning and decision-making skills for addressing pressing public health issues through innovative, sustainable strategies.
