Featuring 2022 CUES Spanning Boundaries Grantees Laura Horley, Aaron Bugaj, and Kenneth Kokroko, along with faculty participant Dr. Nadia Alvarez Mexia, students, and community partners (see below for details), this hybrid exhibition will bring you inside a CUES funded project and unpack its relevance for advancing teaching and learning at the University of Arizona.
The presenters would like to acknowledge the contributions of CUES 2022 Spanning Boundaries grantees Dr. Caitlyn Hall and Dr. Lysette Davi, who will be in Vienna during the time of this exhibition, presenting A Model Framework for Integrating Bi-national Community-Engaged, Culturally Responsive Partnerships into Sustainability Education at the 2025 EGU General Assembly.
Abstract
This exhibition showcases applications of Civic Engagement and Service Learning pedagogy across a range of disciplines and community partners, exploring the connection between community, curriculum, and communication. Spanning courses from engineering to fine arts, students and faculty have partnered with organizations throughout the borderlands to engage in collaborative community projects. With the support of CUES, the grant team was able to focus on developing partnerships, addressing stakeholder needs, designing unique course experiences, and creating multimedia communications. This interactive exhibition features student- and faculty-facilitated activities that illustrate the type of work done within and beyond the classroom during the grant period. Attendees will have the chance to experience specially designed versions of real course activities, followed by a dynamic panel presentation featuring faculty, students, and community partners.
